Household sharing

Household sharing FAQ

Household sharing lets invited Charoite users collaborate on shared planning while each person keeps control over which personal accounts are visible to the household.

What is a household?

A household is a shared planning space for people who want to review selected account balances, transactions, categories, budgets, recurring expenses, and manual assets together.

How do invitations work?

The household creator sends an iCloud sharing invitation. The recipient accepts that invitation with the Apple ID they use for iCloud, then opens Charoite to finish joining the household.

What can other household members see?

Other members can see the accounts you choose to share with that household, including projected balances and transactions for those selected accounts. Accounts you do not select remain private.

Can other members edit my personal transactions?

No. Shared account data is presented to the household as a read-only projection. Other members can plan with household data, but they cannot edit your personal transaction details.

Where is household data stored?

Charoite does not run its own backend servers. Household sharing uses Apple's iCloud and CloudKit sharing, so shared household data syncs through iCloud between invited members.

Do I need to share every account?

No. You choose which accounts are shared with a household, and you can keep personal accounts out of household dashboards and budgets.

Can I leave or remove a household?

Yes. Charoite is designed so your personal SimpleFIN connection and imported personal accounts remain separate from household sharing. Removing a household does not remove your personal connection.

Is household sharing final?

No, this is still a beta and functionality is subject to change.
